Gregg Bucken-Knapp New Member of CERGU's Steering Group

Gregg Bucken-Knapp has been named a new member of CERGU's steering group. He is a senior lecturer and associate professor in the School of Public Administration. Bucken-Knapp earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from The George Washington University in Washington, DC with a specialization in comparative politics.

His current research explores the governance dynamics of integrating mobile EU citizens into urban areas. He is a member of the Swedish research team of the Urban Europe Joint Programming Initiative project “IMAGINATION: Urban Implications and Governance of CEE Migration”, 2013-2016. He is also the transnational coordinator and lead member of the Swedish team for the European Commission Directorate-General Justice financed project “Local Welcoming Policies: EU Migrants” (2015-2016), which will map existing welcome policies for mobile EU citizens in six major European cities, and highlight the governance challenges associated with the development of welcome policies for these new residents. Bucken-Knapp has previously been awarded grants from, among others, the Swedish Research Council, the Danish Social Science Research Council and the Fulbright Foundation.

Bucken-Knapp’s most recent publications include a 2014 co-edited special issue of the journal Comparative European Politics, focusing on European political parties and migration policy, and the co-edited anthology The Discourses and Politics of Migration in Europe (Palgrave, 2013). He is also the co-editor of the forthcoming anthology Discursive Governance in Politics, Policy and the Public Sphere (Palgrave, 2015) and one of the editors of Scandinavian Journal of Public Administration.
