About Gregg Bucken-Knapp

Background
Gregg Bucken-Knapp is Professor in the School of Public Administration. He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from The George Washington University (Washington, DC) in 1999, with a specialization in comparative politics.

Research Interests:
Bucken-Knapp’s broad research interest is comparative public policy, particularly with regards to immigration and immigrant integration policy in a Nordic context. He has most recently served as the transnational research coordinator for the European Commission Directorate General Justice funded project ”Local Welcome Policies: EU Migrants” (2015-2016), and was a researcher on the European Joint Programming Initiative: Urban Europe financed project “Urban Implications and Governance of CEE Migration” (2014-16).  Previous major grants include funding from the Swedish Research Council and the Danish Research Agency. Bucken-Knapp has also been the recipient of a Fulbright Grant. 

He is also convenor of the Political Studies Association Comparative European Politics Specialist Group.

Internationalization Activities:

2019-2020 Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education Teaching Sabbatical.  UNiversity of Tokyo, Japan. (approximately €43,000)

2018-2020 Project leader for the Swedish Institute Summer Academy of Young Professionals thematic module: Migration and Integration in the Eastern Partnership and the Baltic Sea Region: Policy and Administrative Challenges for the Development of Inclusive Societies. Jointly organized with the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs and to be held in Tbilisi, Georgia. (approximately €190,000 total)

2018-19 University of Gothenburg International Centre Erasmus+ Strategic Project to organize a short-term incoming mobility for undergraduate students and one teacher from the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus. (approximately € 9,000)
