About Angelica Börjesson

Background
Pol. Master in Public Administration, University of Gothenburg 2012.
PhD candidate in Public Administration, University of Gothenburg, since September 2012.

Before I started as a doctoral student, I had positions as an analyst at The Swedish Agency for Public Management (Statskontoret).

Research interest
Workfare tendencies in Scandinavian Welfare Policies, Ideas and institutional change in Social security, comparative public policy, gender policy. I am also interested in regulation and auditing of public policy.

Current research
In my thesis I study the role of ideas in welfare crises and transformations. My case are the labor market policy in Sweden and Denmark, where I explore how these two rather similar welfare states in different ways deal with the tension between activation as a new norm in welfare policies and the idea of social rights which the social security system is built around. The overall aim of the project is to explore how activation as a political idea encounters various resistances in different social contexts.
