Professor Gregg Bucken-Knapp, School of Public Administration at University of Gothenburg, has been awarded funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers ¿Nordic-Russian Cooperation Programme in Education and Research" to develop a doctoral training course on ¿Nordic-Russian Perspectives on Immigration and Integration¿.
Professor Gregg Bucken-Knapp, School of Public Administration at University of Gothenburg, has been awarded funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers “Nordic-Russian Cooperation Programme in Education and Research" to develop a doctoral training course on “Nordic-Russian Perspectives on Immigration and Integration”.
The aim of the planned course is to provide PhD students with an understanding of the varying ways in which migration and integration issues are problematized by both Nordic and Russian scholars. According to Bucken-Knapp, “In the face of the ongoing refugee crisis, an ever-growing number of doctoral students are expressing an interest in understanding how migration and integration policies are formulated and implemented. The course that results from this project will provide the next generation of migration scholars with a solid doctoral level introduction to an issue that increasingly at the center of public administration, sociology, anthropology and political science.”
The course development will largely take place through a series of ongoing meetings in Moscow, and also a site visit to a leading European center for migration research.
Once developed, the course will be test run at the 2017 International Summer School at Lomonosov Moscow State University’s School of Public Administration. As part of the expectations that scholars engage concretely with the broader society, a version of the course will also be prepared for Russian civil servants.
Alongside Bucken-Knapp, the course development team includes Professor Alexander Livshin and Professor Tatyana Zaytseva from the School of Public Administration at Lomonosov Moscow State University in the Russian Federation, and Dr. Trine Lund Thomsen and Dr. Martin Bak Jørgensen from Aalborg University in Denmark.
