Research interests
Her research interests within public administration are local environmental policy, management by objectives, objective conflicts, the role of the civil servant and the involvement and knowledge of activists.

Current research
Kerstin Bartholdsson is currently running three externally financed projects together with various colleagues:

Commitment and expertise - the significance of activists in wind power and nuclear power issues. Energy supply is an important issue, when planning the sustainable society. To meet energy requirements, the government has concluded an agreement on a long-term and sustainable energy and climate policy. The agreement means that the share of renewable energy in 2050 should be at least 50 percent of the total energy use. Several energy stakeholders are investing significant resources in new wind turbines. At the same time as there is significant national political support, there are protests against wind turbines on a local scale. This creates tension between national energy interests and those desiring to preserve the environment on a local scale. Resistance often stems from environmental activists who are frequently depicted as ignorant and hostile to technology, but there are also indications that they possess alternative knowledge, and that their involvement can contribute to better energy and planning decisions. The aim of the study is to investigate how different activists work with energy issues. The project is being run in collaboration with Hanna Sofia Johansson, PhD, from the Department of Sociology at the University of Stockholm, and is financed by the research foundation of Göteborg Energi. The project's final report will be published in January 2012.

Evaluation of the third year of trials with secondary school advanced education programmes 2011/2012. The evaluation is being carried out on behalf of the Swedish National Agency for Education, in collaboration with Pär Bendz, LPh, and Hanna Sofia Johansson, PhD, at the University of Stockholm Department of Sociology. The project's final report will be published in August 2012.

Evaluation of the Swedish National Agency for Education's work with implementing the new secondary school reforms (GY 2011)
